Author J.G Ballard Died on Sunday, aged 78. he takes with him one of writings most visionary minds. During his later years he was often credited as being the worlds greatest living science fiction author. now however, he will take his place along side Arthur C Clark and Isaac Asimov as one of the most forward thinking and progressive writers of the 20th century.

He will probably be remembered best for his controversial work ‘Crash’ which was adapted into a cult film by director David Cronenberg. but his most pressing work for me are the two novels ‘The Crystal World’ and ‘The Drowned World’, both now hailed as a glimpse of climate change and environmental wellfare both written back during the 60’s. a number of his other works have been adapted to other purposes, including ‘empire of the sun’ an autobiographical piece based on Ballard’s childhood growing up in a japanese P.O.W camp where his parents where held. I hope J.G Ballard’s work is recognised for its contribution to forward thinking culture, and celebrated for its romantic view of a changing world.

“I would sum up my fear about the future in one word: boring.” J.G Ballard 1930 – 2009
